El seud\u00f3nimo del reverendo John Graham es Araucaria. El mensaje cr\u00edptico lo insert\u00f3 en uno de sus \u00faltimos crucigramas \u00ab18 abajo de la 19, que est\u00e1 siendo tratado con 13 15.\u00bb Los que resolvieron el crucigrama encontraron que la respuesta 18 abajo \u2013 \u201csign of growth\u201d \u2013 era c\u00e1ncer. Cuando juntaron las varias respuestas del crucigrama se revel\u00f3: \u00abAraucaria (su seud\u00f3nimo) tiene c\u00e1ncer de es\u00f3fago, que est\u00e1 siendo tratado con los cuidados paliativos\u201d.<\/p>\n

Graham ha compilado crucigramas desde hace m\u00e1s de 50 a\u00f1os, su trabajo fue publicado en The Guardian, The Financial Times y en Across Magazine. <\/p>\n

Graham le cont\u00f3 al peri\u00f3dico The Guardian que el anuncio de su enfermedad, en esta forma en particular le pareci\u00f3 \u201clo m\u00e1s natural (…) me pareci\u00f3 lo correcto\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Para la sorpresa de Graham, muchas de las personas que resolvieron el crucigrama, comenzaron a enviar mensajes de apoyo, llam\u00e1ndolo y envi\u00e1ndole cartas. \u00c9l est\u00e1 realmente muy conmovido por la reacci\u00f3n de sus seguidores.<\/p>\n

Graham mencion\u00f3 lo contento que se sent\u00eda cuando los m\u00e9dicos decidieron ir en contra de la cirug\u00eda o la quimioterapia, dos perspectivas que \u00e9l tem\u00eda. <\/p>\n

Los m\u00e9dicos dicen que nadie sabe cu\u00e1nto tiempo le queda, dicen que no va a pasar a\u00f1os y a\u00f1os, pero que podr\u00eda vivir muchos meses m\u00e1s. <\/p>\n

A pesar del tiempo que le queda, Graham dice que tiene toda la intenci\u00f3n de seguir creando sus crucigramas durante ese tiempo.<\/p>\n

In a crossword first published last month in the puzzle magazine 1 Across, which he founded, and reprinted last week by The Guardian, the 91-year-old told fans \u201cAraucaria has 18 down of the 19, which is being treated with 13 15\u201d.<\/p>\n

The solutions revealed he has cancer of the oesophagus and is receiving palliative care. Other clues had answers such as Macmillan nurse, stent, chemotherapy, endoscopy and sunset.<\/p>\n

The story hit the national newspapers and Rev Graham has been inundated with kind messages from well-wishers across the country \u2013 many of whom have been enjoying his crosswords since he started setting them for The Manchester Guardian, as it was then, in the 1950s.<\/p>\n

Of his unusual announcement, he told The Hunts Post: \u201cIt was more of an accident that I did it\u2026 I did the crossword first because that\u2019s the way my mind works. I thought I would put into a magazine I started with friends about 30 years ago. It seemed like the right place for it to go. It wasn\u2019t my intention for it to go in The Guardian.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey newspapers have all said I\u2019m dying of cancer,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s probably not true \u2013 I might have a long time left. I don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m dying. I feel marvellous.\u201d He was diagnosed in September after developing anaemia and said he would carry on as normal and would continue to set crosswords.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had long discussions with the hospital, who have been wonderful \u2013 I can\u2019t be too full of praise,\u201d he said. \u201cThey were quite clear there was no point going in for complicated therapies that might not work.\u201d<\/p>\n
