L\"\"a revista Time nombr\u00f3 \u201cpersona del a\u00f1o\u201d al presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, por segunda vez desde 2008, al se\u00f1alar que como \u201carquitecto del nuevo Estados Unidos\u201d, y que su reelecci\u00f3n el mes pasado mes de noviembre simboliza la diversidad demogr\u00e1fica y el cambiante rostro del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

La prestigiosa revista ya lo hab\u00eda seleccionado como \u201cpersona del a\u00f1o\u201d en 2008, cuando el hasta entonces senador dem\u00f3crata de Illinois se convirti\u00f3 en el primer presidente afroamericano en la historia de Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n

El editor de la revista Time, Rick Stengel, explic\u00f3 en una carta que acompa\u00f1a el art\u00edculo que Obama es \u201cbeneficiario y autor de una especie de nuevo Estados Unidos, una nueva demograf\u00eda y (cambio) cultural, del cual \u00e9l ahora es s\u00edmbolo\u201d. \u201cDe muchas maneras, Barack Obama es la versi\u00f3n del siglo XXI de este nuevo estadounidense. Pero es m\u00e1s que simplemente una figura pol\u00edtica; es una (figura) cultural tambi\u00e9n. Es el primer presidente en apoyar los matrimonios homosexuales y en ofrecer permisos de trabajo a muchos j\u00f3venes indocumentados\u201d, indic\u00f3 Stengel.<\/p>\n

Si la victoria de Obama en 2008 fue \u201cextraordinaria\u201d, la de 2012 es otra confirmaci\u00f3n de que ese cambio demogr\u00e1fico en Estados Unidos \u201cest\u00e1 aqu\u00ed para quedarse\u201d, resumi\u00f3 Stengel.<\/p>\n

Obama obtuvo el premio \u201cpor forjar una nueva mayor\u00eda, por convertir las debilidades en oportunidades y por buscar, en medio de gran adversidad, el crear una uni\u00f3n m\u00e1s perfecta\u201d. En una entrevista con Time, Obama dijo que su reelecci\u00f3n como presidente \u201cfue tal vez un triunfo m\u00e1s satisfactorio que el de 2008\u201d. \u201cHemos pasado por momentos muy dif\u00edciles\u201d, dijo Obama. Los dos retratos que aparecen de Obama en la edici\u00f3n son las primeras fotos formales del mandatario desde su reelecci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

La revista da el nombramiento a la persona o fen\u00f3meno que m\u00e1s influencia tuvo sobre la cultura y las noticias durante el \u00faltimo a\u00f1o, para bien o para mal.<\/p>\n

Entre la corta lista para elegir a la persona del A\u00f1o 2012, adem\u00e1s de Obama estaban Marissa Mayer, presidenta de Yahoo!; Mohammed Mursi, presidente de Egipto; los indocumentados estadounidenses y Bill y Hillary Clinton. Adem\u00e1s, Malala Yousafzai, la activista estudiantil de Paquist\u00e1n que sobrevivi\u00f3 a un intento de asesinato de los talibanes; Tim Cook, presidente de Apple y \u201cHiggs Boson\u201d y la m\u00e9dico italiana Fabiola Giannati.<\/p>\n

Barack Obama named Time Person of the Year for 2012<\/strong>
\nPresident Barack Obama has been named Time magazine\u2019s Person of the Year for 2012, joining a select band of two-time winners.<\/p>\n

The publication pictured the recently re-elected American president on its cover, and said he deserved the honour as \u00abthe symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America\u00bb.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Time, Mr Obama said his re-election \u00abmay have been more satisfying a win than 2008\u00bb.
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve gone through a very difficult time,\u201d he said. \u201cThe American people have rightly been frustrated at the pace of change, and the economy is still struggling, and this president we elected is imperfect, and yet, despite all that, this is who we want to be. That\u2019s a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Time lauded Mr Obama\u2019s campaigning prowess, noting he was the first president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt to win more than 50 percent of the vote in two straight elections and the first president since 1940 to be re-elected despite an unemployment rate above 7.5 percent.<\/p>\n

Mr Obama beat Republican Mitt Romney soundly in November\u2019s election to win a second four year term, despite presiding over a chronic economic slump.
\n\u201cIn 2012, he found and forged a new majority, turned weakness into opportunity and sought, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union,\u201d said Time, which had named Mr Obama person of the year back in 2008, when he won his historic presidential election to become the first African American US president.<\/p>\n

The 2012 runner-up was Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot and nearly killed by the Taliban for campaigning for the right to female education.
\nOthers on the shortlist included Apple chief executive Tim Cook, Egypt\u2019s post-revolutionary President Mohamed Morsi, and atomic physicist Fabiola Gianotti.<\/p>\n
