Unas de las fotos, portada del New York Post el martes, despert\u00f3 una avalancha de cr\u00edticas seg\u00fan las cuales el fot\u00f3grafo podr\u00eda haber impedido el accidente. Los cr\u00edticos \u201cno estaban ah\u00ed, no tienen ni idea de la velocidad a la que ocurrieron los hechos\u201d, explic\u00f3 Abbasi al New York Post, se\u00f1alando que el and\u00e9n ten\u00eda m\u00e1s de 150 metros de largo. <\/p>\n

\u201cLa gente que estaba cerca de \u00e9l podr\u00eda haberlo agarrado y haberlo ayudado a subirse\u201d al and\u00e9n, observ\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n Abbasi en NBC. \u201cPero nadie hizo el esfuerzo\u201d. \u201cLa gente que estaba tal vez a 30 o 40 metros de \u00e9l no intent\u00f3 ayudarlo\u201d, insisti\u00f3. El fot\u00f3grafo reiter\u00f3 que quiso alertar al conductor del metro con su flash. Y reconoci\u00f3 que le pagaron por estas fotos. En cuanto a su publicaci\u00f3n, se defendi\u00f3 diciendo que la publicaci\u00f3n de las im\u00e1genes no era decisi\u00f3n suya.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo estoy seguro de que me estuviera dando cuenta de lo que pasaba\u201d, agreg\u00f3 al New York Post, calculando que habr\u00edan pasado unos 22 segundos entre el momento en que Ki Suk Han, de 58 a\u00f1os, fue empujado a la v\u00eda por un indigente luego de un altercado y el momento del impacto con el vag\u00f3n del metro. \nA freelance photographer who took a chilling picture of a man about to be killed by a subway train said Wednesday that there was \u00abno way\u00bb he could have saved the man but that other people in the station could probably have pulled him to safety.<\/p>\n

R. Umar Abbasi told NBC’s \u00abToday\u00bb show that he had been in Times Square shooting an assignment for the New York Post and was on a platform at a nearby subway station when, out of the corner of his eye, he \u00absaw a body flying off onto the tracks.\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00abThere was a collective gasp, and that got my attention,\u00bb Abbasi said. At that point, he saw the man on the tracks and saw the lights of a train approaching.<\/p>\n

Abbasi said he began running toward the scene and snapping pictures in hopes the flash of his camera would alert the conductor of the train. But the train was unable to stop in time, and Ki-Suck Han, 58, was crushed to death as he tried to climb back onto the platform. <\/p>\n

The New York Post, which ran the photograph of Han’s desperate attempt to save himself on its front page Tuesday, has come under fire from many readers for subjecting Han’s family in Queens to the image. Abbasi also has been criticized for taking pictures rather than saving Han, something he said he could not have done even if he had not been carrying a camera.<\/p>\n

\u00abIf this thing had happened again with the same circumstances, whether I had a camera or not and I was running toward it, there is no way I could have rescued Mr. Han,\u00bb Abbasi said. \u00abWhat really surprises me,\u00bb he added, \u00abis the people who were maybe 100 or 150 feet away from Mr. Han — they did not reach out to help him.\u00bb <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
