En una investigaci\u00f3n publicada por la revista especializada Trends in Genetics, Crabtree argumenta que hace miles de a\u00f1os, cuando los hombres a\u00fan viv\u00edan en peque\u00f1os grupos en el medio salvaje, las habilidades intelectuales eran clave para la supervivencia individual.<\/p>\n
Pero desde que el hombre empez\u00f3 a practicar la agricultura y vivir en comunidades m\u00e1s grandes, la inteligencia individual dej\u00f3 de ser tan importante. As\u00ed, un ciudadano de la Antigua Grecia que viajara en el tiempo hasta hoy ser\u00eda mucho m\u00e1s inteligente: tendr\u00eda m\u00e1s imaginaci\u00f3n y mejor memoria.<\/p>\n
Seg\u00fan el bi\u00f3logo, la inteligencia humana depende de entre 2 mil y 5 mil genes. Diversas investigaciones muestran que este patrimonio gen\u00e9tico es especialmente susceptible de sufrir mutaciones. Y Crabtee cree que en las \u00faltimas 120 generaciones (unos 3 mil a\u00f1os), la humanidad ha ido perdiendo inteligencia poco a poco.<\/p>\n
Su tesis es la siguiente: como el hombre primitivo no utilizaba el cerebro, no pod\u00eda alimentarse ni protegerse de animales salvajes, por lo que s\u00f3lo los m\u00e1s inteligentes sobreviv\u00edan. Esta presi\u00f3n selectiva hizo, seg\u00fan Crabtee, que la inteligencia humana aumentara de forma constante.<\/p>\n
Sin embargo, desde la implantaci\u00f3n de la agricultura, los hombres vivieron en grupos m\u00e1s grandes que proteg\u00edan a los m\u00e1s d\u00e9biles.<\/p>\n
Entonces, protegerse de las enfermedades que surgen de las aglomeraciones era m\u00e1s importante que la inteligencia.<\/p>\n
El experto contradice as\u00ed otros estudios que afirman que el coeficiente intelectual medio aumenta de generaci\u00f3n en generaci\u00f3n desde comienzos del siglo XX. Es el llamado \u00abefecto Flynn\u00bb, que lleva el nombre del investigador James Robert Flynn.<\/p>\n
