El fundador de un club internacional de polo del sur Florida, John Goodman, adopt\u00f3 a su novia de 42 a\u00f1os como hija para supuestamente proteger sus bienes de una demanda civil, inform\u00f3 hoy el diario The Palm Beach Post en su edici\u00f3n digital. Goodman adopt\u00f3 a Heather Laruso Hutchins el pasado 13 de octubre en un tribunal de Miami-Dade y los abogados de los demandantes consideran que se trata de una estrategia ante la acci\u00f3n judicial que afronta.<\/p>\n
La demanda en contra de Goodman fue interpuesta por los padres de Scott Patrick Wilson, de 23 a\u00f1os, quien muri\u00f3 en febrero de 2010 en un accidente de tr\u00e1nsito. Un informe de la oficina del alguacil del condado de Palm Beach, al norte de Miami, citado por el peri\u00f3dico, indic\u00f3 que Goodman presuntamente no se detuvo ante una se\u00f1al de pare y su veh\u00edculo impact\u00f3 al autom\u00f3vil del joven.<\/p>\n
Goodman, quien se declar\u00f3 inocente, afronta tambi\u00e9n acusaciones penales de homicidio no premeditado y otros cargos relacionados con el accidente y el juicio est\u00e1 fijado para marzo pr\u00f3ximo. Un juez concedi\u00f3 a los abogados de Lili y William Wilson, padres de la v\u00edctima, el derecho a tener acceso a la informaci\u00f3n relacionada con la adopci\u00f3n de Goodman, quien es el fundador del club internacional de polo de Palm Beach, en Wellington.<\/p>\n

El juez dijo que la t\u00e1ctica de Goodman de adoptar a su novia \u00abno tiene precedentes\u00bb. Kelley hab\u00eda decidido previamente que el fondo de fideicomiso establecido para los dos hijos menores de Goodman no pod\u00eda ser considerado parte del patrimonio de Goodman si un jurado otorgaba compensaciones a los Wilson.<\/p>\n
Seg\u00fan los documentos de adopci\u00f3n, Laruso Hutchins tiene derecho inmediato a por lo menos una tercera parte de los activos del fondo al igual que su hija legal debido a que tiene m\u00e1s de 35 a\u00f1os.
\nEn una declaraci\u00f3n dada a los abogados, en mayo pasado, Laruso Hutchins dijo que ella comenz\u00f3 a salir con Goodman en 2009.<\/p>\n
El abogado de William Wilson, Scott Smith, dijo que Goodman se beneficia del fondo de fideicomiso y que lo estaba usando para proteger sus activos.
\nMientras que Chris Searcy, abogado de Lili Wilson, argument\u00f3 en una moci\u00f3n que al adoptar a la novia como hija, Goodman puede ahora darle instrucciones para que retire hasta un tercio del fondo.<\/p>\n

John Goodman is the 48-year-old heir to an air-conditioning fortune from his father that pioneered new duct-work and turned the company into a billion dollar air-conditioning manufacturer. The polo enthusiast and father of two children from a former wife has been in a three-year relationship with 42-year-old girlfriend, Heather Hutchins.
\nIn 1991, Goodman created a trust for his children that started with $1.5 million. He has grown that trust to be worth more than $100 million. Clauses that are in the conditions of the trust stipulates that the fund cannot be taken from until the beneficiary is 35. Both of Goodman’s biological children are currently teenagers.<\/p>\n
Scott Wilson, 23, was on his way home on February 12, 2010, to spend Saturday with his sister for her birthday. He had traveled from his Orlando apartment to Wellington and was on the last leg of his journey when, at 1a.m. Friday morning, his car was struck by Goodman’s Bentley speeding through a stop sign. The crash flipped Wilson’s car into a roadside canal. Goodman fled the scene on foot, leaving Wilson’s submerged car in the canal. Scott Wilson died from drowning.<\/p>\n
Scott’s parents filed a wrongful death suit against Goodman that is scheduled for late this March. Goodman will also be on trial by the state for vehicular homicide under the claim that Goodman’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. This will also take place in March. Other charges include driving under the influence manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, which could incur 30 years in prison.
\nIn October of 2011, Goodman privately adopted his girlfriend of three years and only six years his junior as his daughter. Heather Hutchins in now legally his daughter. This entitles Hutchins to one-third of the children’s trust now because she exceeds 35 years old. <\/p>\n
On Feb. 2, Goodman’s attorney issued a statement clarifying the reason for the highly unusual action. According to attorney Daniel Bachi, this was a move made to insure the security of his children’s trust after he had given management of the fortune to Bessemer Trust Company.
