El actor fue nominado por el filme \u00abA Better Life\u00bb (Una vida mejor). El actor mexicano, que emigr\u00f3 a los Estados Unidos hace 20 a\u00f1os para perseguir roles en ingl\u00e9s, interpreta el papel de un jardinero en el Este de Los Angeles, un inmigrante indocumentado que persigue tenazmente el Sue\u00f1o Americano. Bichir fue nominado tambi\u00e9n al SAG Award (Screen Actors Guild) por su interpretaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

George Clooney, quien se llev\u00f3 a casa un Globo de Oro la semana pasada por su papel en el drama familiar de Alexander Payne (tambien nominada a mejor pelicula) \u00abThe Descendants\u00bb aparece como el favorito.<\/p>\n

El actor franc\u00e9s Jean Dujardin, sin embargo, podr\u00eda quitarle a Clooney el puesto. Esta es la primera nominacion al Oscar por actor principal que obtiene la estrella parisina de 39 a\u00f1os de \u00abThe Artist\u00bb, nominada a mejor pelicula. En ella interpreta a George Valentin, una superestrella del cine mudo cuya carrera se viene abajo con la llegada del cine hablado. El a\u00f1o pasado, gan\u00f3 el premio a mejor actor en el Festival de Cine de Cannes por este filme mudo en blanco y negro, y tambi\u00e9n recibi\u00f3 un Globo de Oro como mejor actor principal en pel\u00edcula de comedia o musical.<\/p>\n

Brad Pitt obtiene su segunda nominacion como actor principal, esta vez por su retrato del entrenador de Oakland, Billy Beane en el drama de baseball \u00abMoneyball\u00bb (tambi\u00e9n nominada a mejor pelicula), mientras que el veterano actor britanico Gary Oldman obtiene su primera nominaci\u00f3n al Oscar por su interpretaci\u00f3n del esp\u00eda George Smiley en \u00abTinker Tailor Soldier Spy.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Los Premios Oscar se entregar\u00e1n el 26 de Febrero en el Teatro Kodak de Hollywood. La cadena ABC transmitir\u00e1 la ceremonia, cuyo anfitri\u00f3n ser\u00e1 Billy Crystal.<\/p>\n

Oscar nominations: Demian Bichir, George Clooney, Jean Dujardin among best actor picks<\/p>\n

It’s no surprise to see established stars like George Clooney and Brad Pitt vying for the Best Actor trophy at the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Demian Bichir, however, is this year’s dark horse. Though the 48-year-old actor may not yet be a household name in the United States, the Mexican star has been working steadily since the age of 14.<\/p>\n

The actor was nominated for the film \u00abA Better Life.\u00bb The Mexican actor who immigrated to the United States some 20 years ago to pursue English-language roles played an East L.A. gardener, an undocumented immigrant who\u2019s doggedly pursuing the American dream. Bichir was also nominated for a SAG award for his performance.<\/p>\n

\u00abI’m overwhelmed for having my name among those incredible actors,\u00bb Bichir, who stars in A Better Life, tells Us Weekly in a statement. \u00abThis could have never happened if Chris Weitz had not been the head of this film. He is my brother and I thank him deeply.\u00bb<\/p>\n

George Clooney, who took home a Golden Globe last week for his starring turn in Alexander Payne’s family drama (and best picture nominee) \u00abThe Descendants,\u00bb appears to be the front-runner.<\/p>\n

French actor Jean Dujardin, however, might be able to unseat Clooney in the category. The 39-year-old Parisian star of best picture nominee \u00abThe Artist\u00bb is a first-time Oscar nominee for lead actor as George Valentin, a silent screen superstar whose career falls apart with the advent of the talkies. Last year, he won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for the black-and-white silent movie and he\u2019s also received a Golden Globe for lead actor in a motion picture comedy or musical.<\/p>\n

Brad Pitt earns his second lead actor nomination, this one for his portrayal of Oakland A\u2019s general manager Billy Beane in the baseball drama \u00abMoneyball\u00bb (another best picture nominee) while veteran British actor Oldman picks up his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of ace spy George Smiley in \u00abTinker Tailor Soldier Spy.\u00bb<\/p>\n
